The Ballyhoe Lakes were the place for specimen tench recently with tench to 7 lb landed reports Garrett O’Reilly…

It looks like alot of the silvers have been away spawning this last week or so along with the bream as both seem to be hard to find on both of the Ballyhoe lakes at present, even the perch seem to have gone else where too.

The tench have been playing hard to get at times also and as the lull in fishing has been hard work for some , others have again had spells of good fishing with mixed results but again some good tench have shown up.

Stephen from Dublin had a 7lb tench

Dublin angler Steve had a good session last week with tench to 7lb on the nose and would have had a 100lb plus bag if he landed every fish. 2 days later the same peg and the same prebaited area close to the lillies produced nothing for another well known tench angler but as they say “thats fishin for ya “.

I’m only guessing but things should soon get back to normal pretty soon. Last week I had the great pleasure of watching them frolic and spawn at Camlough Lake at very close range and watched the fishing there suffer greatly too as the fish had other things on there mind.

And the end of May Steven from Lurgan also managed to break the 6 lb barrier with some fine fish in his haul of tench from Ballyhoe 1.
