Lindsey Clarke reports on the salmon fishing at Lough Mevlin from 21 – 27 April…

This week brought better weather with rising air temperatures and some light conditions though the wind was strong on occasions. Still, it really felt like spring.

The week started well with 4 salmon caught on Monday with 3 of these caught in the Rossinver Fishery. Terry Bradley recorded a 7lb salmon caught on a fly in Rossinver Bay. Nial Sweeney reported an 8lb salmon caught on a Yellow Belly Devon Minnow between the County River & Ward’s Point. Raymond Dundas reported a grilse caught trolling along the Garrison Shore and Brian McEvoy accounted for a salmon caught trolling along the Dooard Shore. On Friday, Raymond reported a further salmon caught. This was a 9lb 4oz fish caught trolling a Brown & Gold Devon Minnow between the County River & Ward’s Point.
