The fishing in the Courtmacsherry area the last week has been good with shark, reef, inshore wreck and the estuary all producing some good sport for both visiting and local anglers. I don’t think that I remember a time that the bay and estuary were so abundant with sprat, Sandeel, small scad with the mackerel shoaling as far as Timoleague abbey.
Local anglers of all ages are having great sport with the mackerel off the pier with the odd bass being landed as well.
Sharking has been producing some good fish to 2.24metre aprox weight 90lbs, with 14 runs yesterday managing to land 10 which were tagged and released, on the reefs pollack to 10 lbs, conger to 25lbs and bullhuss were great sport to 14 lbs, the inshore wrecks produced ling to 18lbs with blue sharks attacking the fish on the way up!
Fishing in the estuary has been good with young and old alike enjoying the mackerel fishing , live baits for bass has not been producing so good lately probably due to the amount of feed available, but fishing on lures is producing some good fish to 8lbs.
