Basil Sheilds of Ardnasillagh Lodge Oughterard (091-552550) reports of a slight slow down in fishing but great action still to be had mainly on Caenis. Michael Murphy of Shannon caught two fish for three pounds both sportingly released on Caenis. David Irwin and Friend from Belfast had a cracking day on Buzzer landing eight trout best fish being four pounds. Fellow Northern Ireland angler Robert Mellamphy of Lisburn had seven fish on buzzer. Canadian Angler Tom Carter had two fish also on Caenis best fish being two pounds.

Staying in the Oughterard area Kevin Molloy of Baurisheen Boat Hire & Guiding (087-9604170) reports of visiting German angler Stefan Ohnesorg having a good five days trolling landing eleven trout for his trip and best fish two and a half pounds and three pike to his tally and the best of the pike weighing ten pounds. Another visiting angler with Kevin from the USA caught four trout trolling.


Tom Kelly reports of The Oughterard Angling Club hosting The John Gill Wet Fly And Dapping Competition in which 19 anglers participated in catching 14 trout for a weight of 9.5kgs. 1st Place went to Mike Molloy with 3 trout for 2.16kgs. 2nd place was taken by Malcom Ruane with 4 trout for 2.12 kgsand 3rd placed was Kenneth Ferguson who had 2 trout weighing 1.44kgs. Heaviest Fish went to David Buckley with a trout of 1.08kgs.
In the Greenfields area on Wednesday Ennis angler Pappe Cotter had one fish weighing 1.75lb and fellow Clare angler James Kelleher Junior caught two lovely trout on wet flies. On Sunday former fisheries staff member Pat Day had two trout on wet may fly patterns with the best of the two fish weighing 1.5lb.
Larry McCarthy of Corrib View Lodge Glencorrib (087-9135222) reports of excellent fishing despite weather conditions those who were brave enough to go out were suitably rewarded. Jeremy Herrmann being boated by Larry for three days accounted for twenty four trout between 3lb and 4lb.Visiting UK angler Malcom Patrick caught fifteen trout for three days angling with a personal best of 5lb all caught on Caenis. Northern Ireland anglers, father and son Peter and Adam Neeson fished the Inchagoill area on Wednesday and Thursday catching twelve trout on dry mayflies. On Friday Ian Macintosh of Waterford and Jim McEvoy of Cork had a red letter day Caenis fishing being boated by Larry landing twenty two trout between 1.5lb and 3lb.

On Sunday visiting anglers Victor, Xavi and Jacques from Andorra staying at Corrib View Lodge failed to get Caenis fishing due to weather conditions that morning however got excellent sport on the Cong river Salmon fishing and catching two grilse of six pounds on the fly on the Ashford water. When the conditions improved they returned to the lake and huge well done goes out to Victor Martinez. It’s taken 13 years and about 20 visits but Tuesday 23 June, he got his specimen 10lb trout on a single handed fly rod. Job well done by Corrib View Lodge guide Simon Cassidy.
