Originally created as a trial of the venue for the NCFFI Senior Canals competition by Daingean Match Anglers in joint collaboration with Polish Pole Anglers it soon became a massive ‘friendly’ with 52 anglers from across the county competing.

NCFFI - Daingean and Polish Pole winner on Canal CompetitionThe morning started with a severe frost followed by a cold east wind with bright sunshine. However, the fishing was very even across the whole of the town match stretch. With good colour and a slight tow the water conditions were perfect. The fish were not as active as expected but plenty of small roach were caught with larger fish, tench and bream showing in the heavier nets.
