The Suck Valley Angling Hub reports on the 2nd leg of the Connacht Winter League…

Connacht Coarse Fishing Federation held the second match of their winter league at the weekend on the River Suck.

Although water levels had risen over 15 inches on the previous Sunday, there were good catches of bream, Roach, Perch , Rudd, and hybrids.

The day started off with a dense fog clearing in the afternoon to produce a beautiful day.

Leigh Maitland from Ballyhaunis took the overall and his section win with Mick O’Connor taking second place. Section two was won by Cathal Hughes with Shane Dunne taking the silver.

Great day all round and the craic was mighty providing you were thick skinned and able to take the flack which never stopped flying all day.

The River suck is still one of the few places where big rudd can still be caught with its cousin the rudd/bream hybrid showing now and again.

There are ten matches in all to be fished between now and the spring of 2016 so here’s hoping that the floods stay away.
