Angling Guide Michael Flanagan reports from a flooded river Inny:
The River Inny is getting a right flushing this weather with all the recent rain. Last week we received a photograph from Michael Lynch who was pike fishing near Finea, when he hooked –up with a super fish. Unfortunately the photograph is a bit grainey, and probably was taken on a camera phone. Some phones produce top quality snaps, but its no harm to carry a pocked camera with you on your angling adventures. We might just drop into Mick Mulryan of Mullingar Image World and see what’s on offer on the camera scene. Anyway back to the Inny, I bumped into local angler Michael Grimes when I was walking the river, and Michael was struggling in the high water. The bream hybrids were reluctant to come on the feed, but in the coming weeks when the river settles some nice fish will be on the move. I still did not make it down to Lough Iron, but as soon as this weather settles we will drift down from Derravaragh. Iron is not fished heavily in the summer months as the Inny is low and overgrown with weeds making it impossible to get down to the lake in our 19ft boats.
