Ghillie/Guide Vincent Appleby reports on the salmon and sea trout fishing in the past week on the Lough Currane system:

29/01/15 Again Lough Currane was at a stand still with a strong and gusty NW wind with a mixture of Rain, hale and snow. Need I say more.

Snow on the Hill

30/01/15 All quiet on the SW front in all departments, including the weather, except with the odd heavy hale shower  followed by strong NW gusts. As I am sure you all know that tomorrow is the last day of the shooting season and just to let you know there will a great party in the Waterville Inn, so lets all come on down and listen to some great music, great food and make sure you bring your dancing shoes, that’s a quote from the Landlord Mr. Damian Duff of the Waterville Inn.

31/01/15 Local Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea was the only boat manipulating on the lake and sadly the only bit of stimulating Tom had was in Kelt department with 4 kelts to his boat. Wind North with very strong gusts with a mixture of hale sleet and snow with good sunshine between the showers.

01/02/15 The first day of spring on the Waterville Fishery, didn’t procure my Noble Salmon. There was no wind what so ever and what wind was there was coming from the wrong direction if you get my drift, so on that note we will go back to last night to the Waterville Inn and the end of the Shooting season and their  Dinner and dance party and the presenting of the Euge Haze Memorial Cup for the best Shot and the downing of the biggest Cock Pheasant on the opening day of the 14/15 season and that goes to Waterville’s Professional Golfer Mr. Brian Higgins, as you can see by the photo he holds the Cup with pride and what made this extra special, Brian was a great friend of the late Euge Haze, who was a great shot and guide and a fantastic character himself. As you can see by the photos there was a great night had by all and on behalf of all the shooters and none shooters alike I would like to thank the Landlord of the Waterville Inn, Mr. Damian Duff and his good Wife Sally for a fantastic evening and a special mention for their great Staff.

02/02/15 There were 4 boats manipulating and maneuvering their Rapalas and Toby’s, on that note I will let Shakespeare have his say on today’s action, Toby or not Toby that is the question and the answer is they failed miserably in all departments. On the weather front it was overcast and flat calm all day with light rain this evening.

03/02/15 There were four or five boats on this freezing day and in the words of one Gillie it would freeze the balls of a brass monkey. Freezing or not they still failed to procure the Wild Atlantic Salmon. In the Kelt department, Mr. Sion Brain of www.kbfishingireland.com caught 2 Kelts. Wind NE calm to light with bright sunshine.
