David Edwards, skipper of charter boat Tigger, reports that the settled weather is allowing them continue to make the most of the fishing of the West Cork coast…

The settled weather has allowed us to continue targeting the good quality fishing available out of Ring, Clonakilty during October before moving on to Kinsale later this month. A wide variety of species are still showing with cod and ling being the main target for anglers. I’m hopeful that we can continue to fish for the next 10 days or so with the lads from Swords Angling Centre returning on the 29th for another go at the cod, their trip on the 16th was a bit of a challenge with a combination of stiff easterlies and stiff drinks the night before getting the better of a couple of lads, but they bravely preserved and it wasn’t long before their target of a double figure cod was achieved. Unusually it was caught on a ragworm rather than the mackerel baited lures that have accounted for most of the cod this year.
I’m hoping that the ling fishing in particular is as good as last winter from Kinsale and that enough cod hang about to take our minds of the cooler weather

Go fishing…
Tigger is a purpose built Procharter 31 angling boat, powered by a 330HP diesel engine and equipped with all necessary safety equipment. Reef and ground drift fishing is generally the most productive method with the potential to catch in excess of 20 species if you adapt your lures and baits accordingly. From mid June through to October it’s usually possible to target the blue shark fishing that is predominatly between 10-15 miles off the estuary. All sharks are released and recent seasons have seen larger species such as mako and threshers being sighted more frequently, so who knows what will come in 2014…
