Ireland's International Anglers Honoured at Angling Council of Ireland Awards Ceremony

On Saturday 28th March, at the Westmanstown Sports Centre in Dublin, angling’s national governing body, the Angling Council of Ireland (ACI) and affiliated federations, presented awards to dozens of anglers who had represented Ireland at international level during the last two years.
The awards were presented in recognition of the outstanding contribution made by each angler to Irish angling as an international competitor in each of the represented game, coarse, sea and predator angling disciplines. Among the recipients were Ireland’s men’s, ladies and junior angling teams who have achieved great success at the highest international level of the sport, with a number of them taking gold, silver and bronze medals in many top international competitions.

 
Ireland’s anglers have been competing at the highest international level of the sport of angling for years. In the last two years, Irish anglers have taken part in a huge number of international events including the European Coarse Championships in Serbia, the World Coarse Championships in Poland, the World Feeder Championships in South Africa, the Celtic Cup in Wales, the World Youth Teams U14, U18 and U23 in France, Junior Celtic Cup in Wales, Junior World Championships U23 Holland, European Championships in Belgium, World Championships in Croatia, Senior and Junior Celtic Cup in Scotland, Fish-O-Mania International in England and the World Feeder Championships Ireland. Teams have also competed in the UK Nations, Island of Ireland International Fly Fishing Cup 2013 and 2014, the World Boat Lure Fishing Competition in Ireland and France, World Bank Fishing Competition with Lures in Bulgaria, the Sea Angling Home Nations Shore 2013, U16, U21, Ladies and Mens Wales, the Home Nations Boat, Stornoway, the World Boat Competition 2013 Portugal, the World Shore Championships in Spain, the World Boat England 2014, the Home Nations 2014 Shore U16, U21, Ladies and Mens, Scotland and the World Shore Men’s 2014 France.
Ireland’s anglers have taken many prestigious international angling titles over the years, demonstrating that Irish anglers are among the best in the world and can compete at all levels with the best anglers in the world.
Speaking at yesterday awards ceremony, Martin McEnrore (ACI) congratulated all of the recipients on their achievements and thanked them for their contribution to Irish angling and for their dedication and commitment to the sport.

Kieran Murphy, Head of Human Resources, Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) also congratulated all of the recipients of the awards and paid special tribute to the youth anglers, saying it was great to see so many involved in the sport. He also thanked their parents for their continued support which represented a huge contribution to the sport of angling.

In addition to the awards presented to the anglers that had represented Ireland at international level, ACI also presented a number of certificates under its coaching programme.
