Bill Cassidy, chairman of the River Suck Angling Hub reports from their well run Coarse Angling Festival held recently.
Suck valley Angling Hub held their first angling festival over the Easter weekend, it is hoped that this the first of many with a 2 day match planned for May bank holiday and a three dayer for August .
The famous bends at Ballyforan was decided on due to great bags of Bream and Hybrids being caught during previous matches.
Inland Fishery Officers helped out by providing better access to all sections.
Draw took place in the Angling Centre in Athleague on Saturday morning with net dipping being a priority.
Day one saw local angler Shane Dunne taking an early lead catching skimmers and hybrids. Day two and three saw five or six anglers battling it out for first place, with a thousand euro for the winner there was some serious competition .
Final result and festival winner went to UK resident James Mc Carthy, James picked up a nice round figure of €1000.
Richard Pratt from Arva was second and collected €470
Leigh Maitland Ballyhaunis AC took home € 310.
Better than working.
All anglers praised the facilities and overall quality of the angling on the river Suck.
So untill next time tight lines.
P.S. – More to come…
