Shay O’Donnell reports on Navan Coarse Angling Club‘s  annual Christmas / New Year knockup at The Marina in Athy on Sunday…

Conditions were perfect on Sunday January 3rd at the Marina in Athy as this venue is at its best when water levels are high. 15 NCAC members took part today and we were delighted to be joined by local stalwarts Declan Eugene Day and Michael Kelly.

Competition was fierce today among the travelling anglers as this event is one of the events that will contribute points towards the NCAC Angler of the year award 2016. This is a new initiative we have launched this year.

Rocky Farrelly hoped to deliver a knock out blow with this catch but was happy with 2nd place

On the day 1st place goes to Marina specialist Paul Williams 22 lb 10 oz who takes the prize money for the second year running. Rocky Farrelly came a close second with over 18lb while Brendan O’Malley came in in 3rd place. It was great to officially welcome Fran Coakly and Eoin Mcdonagh to our club. All in all a very enjoyable day was had by all in attendance. A special word of thanks to Declan Day who made today possible.
