NCFFI All Ireland Canal Championships, Royal Canal 30Apr & 01May
Well done to Julian Kendrick who wins the 2016 All Ireland Canal Championships with 1.590kg. In second place was Brian O’Donoghue, 3rd John Connolly and 4th Alan Larkin.

This two day championships now in its 8th year was fished on the Royal Canal around Enfield. The outlook was positive, with good weather and a tinge of colour decent weights were anticipated. Little did we know that the shoals of roach who normally inhabit the Royal Canal were not going to turn up. After many dry nets on day one it was off to the Longwood section for day two, a stretch known for its potential for large weights of bream – but it still wasn’t to be. Successful anglers had one or two skimmers and a few perch in their catches.
Despite the disappointment for some there was the usual good humoured banter on the bank and afterwards at Mother Hubbard’s.
The organisers would like to thank Waterways Ireland for their continued sponsorship of the event and Mother Hubbard’s for their hospitality over the weekend.
Next up is the Junior Canals Championships on the Grand Canal at Daingean on 21st of May.
