Out-going Float Team Manager Mark Theedom has announced the team for his final championship event before retiring from the role he has held for the last six years. Further to a strong performance at the Home Internationals on the Newry Canal last October, two Under 25’s James O’Doherty of Erne Anglers AC and James Gargan, Kingfisher AC will complement the squad who bring with them a wealth of experience at world championships events.
The 2016 European Float team:
James Gargan
Francis McGoldrick
Nick Howell
James O’Doherty
Vincent Walsh
Jason Ward
The squad along with former team member Peter Nolan will travel to the Netherlands this July to compete on the Lage Vaart Canal in the Almere-Buiten district. The ruler-straight canal features bream & skimmers along with Roach, Ruffe and Perch with Ide, Zander and Carp also present.
Mark Theedom says :- “I have selected a team which combines both experience and youthful enthusiasm, the Europeans in Holland is the perfect place for the two younger anglers to prove themselves again after their good performances at last year’s Home Internationals.
The other team members selected have all fished and performed well over a number of years, and the whole squad is looking forward to getting the best result we can at my last match as Team manager.”
Next up for the float team will be the Home Internationals, an event Mark was instrumental in getting resurrected in 2015 for Ireland. New float team manager Vincent Walsh will be announcing details of the 2016 event to be held in England this October and inviting interested individuals to apply for the team.
