Luke Aston from Carrigaholt tells us that after a choppy week the weather settled down on Friday and they had a good day at sea. Customers enjoyed catches of Bullhuss, Congers and Skate. Sunday saw a very windy day at the back of the pier but they had some very steady Ray fishing and thornbacks up to 8lbs.
The weather was nice and sunny on Monday although the sea was still a bit rough. Luke fished in shelter and had a lovely day with Conger over 30lb, Bullhuss and Ray’s over 10lb. Yesterday they had a small window in the weather and got out onto the reefs west of Loop Head. The reward was lots of good Pollack which is always great to catch.
Meanwhile Séan Maguire’s Lady Gwen II fished at anchor on Monday and it made a nice change. They had a few dropped tope runs and lost one at the surface but great fishing otherwise. A young customer on board sea fishing for the first time surprised everyone with dogfish, bullhuss, and thornback ray.
Yesterday saw good fishing out towards the Atlantic for the Lady Gwenn, but a little bit fresh so they finished off the day in the calm waters of the estuary.
Go fishing…
