Chris O Sullivan of Tralee Bay SAC reports from the Ballyquin match which was held on 3rd January:
The last of our competitions that were affected by the mental weather we have been getting in 2015 was run on the 3rd of January on Ballyquinn beach fishing from 5 to 9. 15 anglers made the trek out and were rewarded with some of the best fishing we had all year. Flounders, dabs, rockling, coalies, pouting and whiting were some of the species that made an appearance. Phil kicked off with a 33 flounder and a big whiting shortly after. Finn healy had a nice coalie to get going on the junior side. Paddy Mcmahon and Eoin Foley were in serious competition too but the weed in the surf was causing problems for junior and seniors alike.

At the halfway stage Chris O’Sullivan was on 12 and Eugene on 10 Phil had 7 and it looked like a big finish was on the cards . David had a good peg and was finding the fish. Anthony Foley had a fish first cast but then decided to give others a chance Nikki and Eoin took no notice and warmed up for the inter provincials by thoroughly whooping him I believe combined they had 25 fish to his 1. Rumors that they replaced his bait with jelly worms and colouring pencils are unfounded.
Top baits on the night were lugworm, black wraps, mackerel and sandeel. In all it was a very enjoyable competition with everyone having 5 fish at least and shows the importance of night comps. Presentations were held after the John Lacey comp on the pier and winners were Paddy Mcmahon 3rd junior Finn Healy 2nd and Eoin foley 1st well done lads. In the seniors Eugene came in 3rd while Chris was 2nd and David O’Sullivan 1st. Phil scooped both pools on the night.
A note of congratulations to the McMahon household as they welcomed baby Pearl to the household great news for Liz Shane Ruari and Paddy.
In other news Munster teams take on the other provinces this weekend and we have representatives in the form of Aidan O Halloran Nikki and Eoin Foley and Sean Clifford . Well done so far and have a great time on the east coast
