Peter Cunningham shares a report from Jack Rogers who has been doing a fair bit if trout fishing recently and has enjoyed some success during the last few weeks on Lough Sheelin. Recently though, Jack has been staying closer to home and has done some evening trout fishing on the River Boyne over the last few nights. On Monday evening Jack caught a lovely wild brown trout on the Boyne which he estimated to be in the 2-3lb bracket. The fish was taken on a devaux sedge and in Jacks words “it haired off on me once hooked.” According to Jack he had a very good fight from the fish even though it was caught on his heavier 7 weight rod.
According to Peter water levels are up about 7″ following heavy showers over the last few days. The water is also slightly coloured and there is some weed in suspension. Sedge fishing on the Boyne will improve in the coming weeks if the weather and water conditions cooperate.
