Robert Buick reports as the excellent fishing on the Lower Bann continues with a top weight of 27.840kg and an average weight exceeding 13kg at the East Belfast Coarse Angling Club‘s Winter League. Could it be a record winter match weight average for Ireland…
I said last match that when the Lower Bann is good it’s very good, well when it’s very good it’s bloody excellent!! 28 anglers assembled for this match 5 in the EBCAC winter league series and found the river higher that the last occasion with three flood gates open. However it was very clean and dropping and the roach population must have been very hungry because they fed with a vengeance. The average weight this week exceeded 13kg which must be a record for any winter venue in Ireland.
Michael Cormican on peg 47 fished his favourite 7m whips using 12 and15g floats for a superb 27.840 kg. Second and third weights came from nearby with Paul Hutchman on peg 49 weighing 22.850kg narrowly pipping Ron Jordan who had 21.950kg from 48.
Ron Jordan however retains his position at the top of the league.
Go fishing…
