This year 95 anglers participated in the Cootehill Angling Festival, fishing five venues in rotation. Lakes fished included Lough Sillan North, Lough Sillan South, Bairds Shore, Barnagrove and Annaghmakerrig.  High water levels and blustery conditions made angling difficult but after a close battle the 2014 and 2016 champion Mark Pollard gained the upper hand on Mark Brush.

The winning team had a local flavour and included Brenton Sweeney, Paul Leese and Seamus Winters.

The best one day catch was Mark Pollards 15.100kg at Lough Sillan.

Total catch for the week was 1,436kg.

Anglers enjoyed nightly entertainment in Cootehill and the week finished off with the usual presentation dinner in Errigal Country House Hotel.   The Angling Festival committee is grateful to all who helped make the festival a success.

The top six were:

  • 1st. Mark Pollard, Lutton 34.590kg
  • 2nd. Mark Brush, Glouscester 31.800kg
  • 3rd. Seamus Winters, Latton, Castleblaney 29.530kg
  • 4th. Gary Whalley, Wigan 28.760kg
  • 5th. Bob Nudd, Cambridge 28.310kg
  • 6th. Alan Faulkner, Warrington 27.110kg
