The 94th Dublin Walkinstown Scout Group held its annual camp in Castle Saunderson, Belturbet, County Cavan, during the summer and, for the first time, fishing on the River Finn was part of the daily programme.

This was made possible with the help of an Inland Fisheries Ireland youth funding grant.

The Scout Group purchased 20 rods and 20 reels for each scout in the Walkinstown Scout Section from Southside Angling on Cork Street, Dublin 8. The equipment was then used by the scouts at the Castle Saunderson camp.

The focus was on teaching the scouts how to fish and before each session a different aspect of fishing was taught, finally ending with a fun contest.

Feedback from the camp was very positive with many scouts expressing the desire to fish again and also to go fishing with their parents.

All in all, a very worthwhile annual scout camp.
