Stefan Martin from Killybegs Mariners SAC reports on the shore angling around Donegal Bay at the weekend…
08 April: A tranquil evening on Inver for the final winter league outing last night, some nice whiting to 27cm and coley to 26cm and flounders to 35cm.
Most points cash prize another great fishing well done to John Cunningham and the longest fish pools was shared between John and Dessie O Keeney with 2 35cm flounders. Final details to follow. Well done to all.
09 April: A wonderful sight today as spring is driving the bay into life again as we arrived at the rock mark to see a flurry of seagulls and guillemots feeding on sandeel shoals that the pollack were chasing off the sand and onto the rocky edges to pick off.
Slipping on a shad lure and slow retrieving back over the kelp got pollack every cast as they were on attack mode in the frenzy. Lashing out the bait rods into deep sand got plenty of flounder and dabs to mackerel baits and some of the fresh sandeel tempted a nice turbot and all released back to the deep blue of Donegal Bay again to carry on their game of survival in the sun.
