Noel Caffrey reports on the ESB Angling Club outing at Courtlough fishery on Sat Feburary 25th…
The latest ESB Angling Club outing was a coaching day, to iron out some of the bad habits of the experienced anglers and introduce a number of novices to fly fishing followed by a session on the lake to put all the learnings into practice. Garrett Ruigrok took the members through the science and basics of casting, followed by sessions on rigs and explanations of the type of flies to use.
Sandwiched between storms Doris and Ewan, the fishing was never going to be easy or comfortable, but almost all caught on the day, and certainly all enjoyed and benefited from the day. A total of 45 Rainbows and 15 Brownies were caught. Rainbows to 7lb + were caught, with some much bigger lost. Brownies to 3lb + were caught. All fish were in great condition and all were returned to fight another day. The bigger fish came to blobs and buzzers, damsel type lures worked very well too.
A great day out, and many thanks to the expertise, attention and hospitality of Garrett.
Go fishing…
