Declan Gibbons has a round up of fishing on Lough Corrib over the last week.

Larry McCarthy of Corrib View Lodge www.corribangling.com reports that fishing has been good for the last week with trout rising on olives in a few select bays, and good sedge fishing in many areas of the lake. Vaughn Ruckley from the UK had good fishing Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with 7 fish up to 4lbs. David Reed Scott and his brother Mattie had 3 days great fishing with fish up to 4lbs 9oz. Greenfields, Inchagoill and Ballynalty were the most productive areas.

In the Greenfields area the Braithreach Na Coiribe club hosted the Tony Tighe Open Classic (Heaviest Fish) on Sunday last with 40 anglers participating. 19 fish were weighed in for a total of 36.4lbs.

 

1st place went to Harold O’Toole from Galway with a trout of 4.05lbs. Well done Harold! Paddy O’Toole, Galway was 2nd with a fish of 3.15lbs; 3rd prize was Phillip Kavanagh, Kilbeg – 2.4lbs and in 4th was Brian McInerney, Ennis – 2.35lbs.  The heaviest bag  ( Lynch Cup ) on the day went to Loughrea angler Willie Cullinane with 3 fish for 5.6lbs.

In the Cornamona area Richard Molloy of Ballard Shore Boat Hire & Self Catering (087-2879339) reports good fishing in the area with 4 anglers from Northern Ireland fishing Friday, Saturday and Sunday last catching several trout, with the best fish being 5lbs, all sportingly released.

Staying in the Greenfields area Galway angler Harold O’Toole enjoyed good sport on Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday landing 4 fish on each outing, mainly on dry fly.

Basil Shields of Ardnasillagh Lodge 091-552550 reports relatively good fishing in the Oughterard area mainly to sedges. Simon Wilton from England enjoyed a trip to Lough Corrib which saw him land 5 fish with the best being 3.25lbs, all on sedges. Mark Kingston, also from England had 3 fish for his day on Corrib with the best being 3.25lbs. A group of visiting Swiss anglers had 4fish for their day on Corrib with the best being 2.25lbs. Finally from Ardnasillagh Lodge English angler Bill Spencer had 5 fish in the deeps on daphnia for his day’s fishing, with the five fish averaging 1.5lbs, all sportingly returned.

Staying in the Oughterard area Kevin Molloy (087-9604170) of Baurisheen Bay Guiding, Boat Hire & Self Catering reports reasonably good fishing in the area. The recently held Martin Molloy Memorial Cup Competition saw 36 anglers participate with 24 fish landed on the day. 1st place went to Eoin Kelly with 4 fish for 3.310kgs, in 2nd place was Seamus Kelly with 2 fish for 2.575kgs, and in 3rd place was Kevin Molloy with 1 fish for 2.360kgs. Kevin also won the Heaviest Fish Category.
