Declan Gibbons reports on the final week of the season on Lough Corrib.

In the Oughterard area Kevin Molloy (087-9604170) of Baurisheen Bay Boat Hire, Guiding & Self Catering reports Michael Canny enjoyed a day’s dapping on Tuesday last, landing 4fish to 2.5lbs. On Thursday Kevin guided a Spanish couple who had the fortune of landing a fish of 8lbs trolling, while on Saturday again the Spanish duo also landed a 4.5lbs fish trolling – both fish were sportingly released.

Staying in the Oughterard area Basil Shields of Ardnasillagh Lodge (091-552550) reports a quiet wind down to the season. Michael Shiels from Dublin had 2 fish on dries with the best fish being 2.5lbs, and Tom Shanks from Antrim had 1 fish for 3.5lbs for his day on Corrib.

In the Cornamona area Tom Doc Sullivan http://www.tomdoc.com fished on Thursday last, landing 2 fish on wet flies to 1.5lbs, both sportingly released. Richard Molloy (087-2879339) of Ballard Shore Boat hire & Self Catering reports angler Paul Geraghty from Ashbourne, Co. Meath landed 2 fish trolling of 5.5lbs & 8lbs – both sportingly released.

Staying in the Cornamona area local angler Peter Curran had 2 fish on Saturday last on wet flies to 2.5lbs, both released. Ted Wherry (087-4305957) of Mayfly Lodge, Ballynalty reported a good finish to the 2017 season with good fishing on dry olives and dry peters, and good numbers of fish for three afternoons in the area.

Larry McCarthy http://www.corribangling.com reports of a successful wind down to the 2017 season at Corrib View Lodge – last Saturday and Sunday week Paul Farrell, visiting from the UK, had 4 fish to 3lbs in the Greenfields area on wet flies, and on the last Monday and Tuesday of the season Blake Brett, visiting from Seattle, USA, and guided by Larry had 5 fish for 2 days on dry olives and sedges, with the best fish being 3.5lbs.

On Friday last in Greenfields the Galway West Garda Angling Club hosted an end of season competition which saw 8 rods participate and 3 fish landed. First place went to Peter McGuinness with two fish for 3lbs, and in second place was Mick Bradley with one fish of 1lbs 8oz. Peter also won Angler of The Year in the club – his third time in the last four years.

Staying in the Greenfields area on Saturday last Frank Reilly Headford and Ronan Broderick from Ballinasloe now based in London enjoyed the final day of the season with lots of action, landing 3 fish , all on dries with the best fish being 3lbs.

Also in the Greenfields area Michael O Connor from Fermoy Co Cork who has been fishing Corrib for over 25 years recently landed a cracking fish and a personal best fish of 6lbs 14oz, was accompanied by his fishing friend Bobby Barry – Michael tells us that this fish made the year for him!

On Saturday last Dorrie Gibbons fished in the Clydagh area and landed a fish of 1.5lbs on wet fly.

On the Lower Corrib anglers Gene Haran and John Reidy enjoyed their last cast on Corrib for 2017 by having good action and sport on dry olives, landing 3good trout and a number of smaller fish for their day.
