Mick Flanagan has all the news from Lough Owel…
OWEL ON FIRE

I was heading home off Owel one evening last week, and thought we had an emergency situation on the lake. Fire Brigades and jeeps were parked up at Mullally shore, and quite a few members of Mullingar Fire Brigade were on the shoreline. I got chatting to some of the lads and it was a training session for Search & Rescue teams. Good to know we have these lads to call on if ever we have an emergency on our waterways.
NATIONAL FLY ANGLING CHAMPIONSHIPS ON OWEL
Lough Owel was a hive of activity last week, and will be well fished in the coming days. On Saturday next May 27th Lough Owel Trout Preservation Association host the National Fly Angling Championships, which will see fly anglers from all over Ireland competing for places on the Irish team. Local angler Brendan Murray and L.O.T.P.A. officer has got the task of doing boat manager, and we wish the club and all anglers competing all the best on the day.
OWEL ANGLERS
Last weekend many anglers were out on Owel, with some nice fish being caught on the fly and troll. I

I did a few hours with Frank McKeon and we boated 5 lovely trout, and 3 perch just chilling out trolling small colorful lures. Pauric Martin once again had a good day on Owel, and caught trout on a Minnow Luminous lure.
