William Thornton reports
Conditions were far from ideal last week with low water and very mixed weather. However, 114 salmon were reported caught, slightly up on the previous week.
Among the lucky anglers on the Moy Fishery were Andrew Pearson, UK, (8.5 lbs. on fly), P. J. Brogan (10.5 lbs. on fly) and Danny McCarthy (3.75 & 4.5 lbs. on fly) all on the Ridge Pool. German fly angler, Norman Goldberg, was successful on the Cathedral Beat landing two fish at 8 & 10 lbs.
Upstream of Ballina, Giles Boudier, France, had a ten pounder on prawn on the Armstrong Fishery, Jurg Gasser, Switzerland, landed one at 7 lbs. on prawn on Gannon’s Fishery, while Jacques Le Coq, France, had two at 7 & 9 lbs. on bubble & fly on the Cloongee Fishery. Also on Cloongee, Eric Fouchard, France, had one at 5 lbs. on bubble & fly, while his countryman, Michel Janeau, caught a 10 lbs. fish on spinner. On the East Mayo water, Michael O’Kane, NI, landed a 9 lbs. salmon on fly.
With a good show of fish on most fisheries and the numbers of fish moving into the system increasing, prospects are looking good for the week ahead.
