David McEvoy reports from Delphi Lodge….

Fishing here at Delphi has been steady since my last update, with fourteen fish landed, mainly grilse, with a few springers thrown in for good measure. Conditions have been excellent with the river varying in height from 60 to 44 this morning.

Landing a wild salmon at Delphi. Just enough time for a quick photo before the recovery and release.

Warren Osako continued his good run of form with two fish on the 5th, the first a sparkling grilse of approx. 3lbs from the Rock Pool on a Collie Dog and the second of approx. 4lbs, from the Stream on Finlough, also on a Collie Dog. Kurt Roth also had one from the Stream on Finlough of 4lbs on a Willie Gunn. Warren had another from the Stream on Finlough on the 6thof 2lbs4ozs, again on a Collie Dog. In the afternoon his wife Susan had a beautiful grilse of 5lbs6ozs from the Deadman’s on a Cascade and her fishing partner Nancy Richerson, landed her first ever salmon, a fish of 2lbs10ozs, from the Quarry, also on a Cascade. Kurt Roth finished off the day with one of 6lbs7ozs from the Stream on Finlough on a Willie Gunn.

On the 7thShauna Waterer stole the limelight with a sea liced fish of 9lbs14ozs from the Quarry Pool on a Park Shrimp. In the afternoon Kurt Roth, again to the fore, landed two in 30 minutes from the Kings Pool of 3lbs15ozs and 4lbs3ozs on guess what, a Willie Gunn. There was only one landed yesterday. Michael Osgerby landed his first ever salmon, weighing in at 3lbs13.5ozs on a Posh Tosh from the Meadow Pool.

This morning Peter Eaton had a tremendous start to his week, when he landed a sea liced fish of 7lbs5ozs from the Rock Pool on a Red Francis. Wayne Byrne had a fish from Boat point on Finlough of 6lbs1oz on a Cascade. Bas Maiburg from the Netherlands on his first day’s salmon fishing managed to land his first ever. The fish was caught in the Stream on Finlough, weighed in at 4lbs9.5ozs and took a Collie Dog. Bas is still in shock and I hope he doesn’t think that salmon fishing is that easy!

Water levels are excellent at the moment and even though there is no significant rainfall till Thursday, conditions should be ideal as the system is well topped up. There are some rods available this week and next, and then we are pretty full for the following four weeks. In other words, if you want to try your luck at Delphi give us a shout in the next few days.
