Dan O’Neill reports from the river Nore at Mount Juliet:
Good weather over the past couple of weeks showed some nice fly hatches and beautiful evenings in which to fly fish. It was mainly our members who fished over the past couple of weeks and they had some nice fish. Both salmon and trout have shown up on the fishery. Smaller trout are now thriving and it’s a struggle trying to pass the fly by them in the faster water to reach the larger, more wiley trout in the middle and tail end of the runs.
A session with Pauric Nash who is new to nymphing saw him being quite successful and land some beautiful brown trout. So far it’s been a great trout season – we are just 8 trout short of 4000 for this season which is and increase over last season.
