Mount Juliet’s lakes, a perfect playground for a young angler

Dan O’Neill, Fishery Manager at Mount Juliet reports from the lakes there…

To celebrate my son’s getting his summer holidays it was time for a fishing trip on the lakes. The weather was nice, warm and humid, so we tried for a tench in the margins. Groundbaiting lightly along a couple of different spots soon resulted in the unmistakable fizzy bubbles associated with our target species.

It wasn’t long before the float dipped and Anthony struck into his first tench that gave a great account of itself. To follow were some carp and plenty of Rudd with occasional very and very welcome gudgeon.

A great way to start the summer. Hopefully plenty of days like it for us all!
