Skipper Luke Aston is a busy man these days, with very few days free until October, but some availability for bluefin tuna and whitefish, which can be very good then. This week his guests had shark on their minds. A try for the monster sixgill shark proved unsuccessful, with the big boys proving elusive on the day. A few good conger showed, but the real story was the “bycatch” of 5 porbeagle sharks and one blue shark. Porbeagles are outnumbering blues this year in many locations – a good sign of a resurgence in their population, but also perhaps worrying to see so few blues about.

Other trips over the week targeted whitefish and mixed species, with good pollack, coalfish and rd gurnard coming aboard.
