Charter boat skippers Sean Maguire and Luke Aston report on the fishing from Carrigaholt…

Sean headed west with his boat, the Lady Gwen and a small group of friends on a blustery Sunday morning to search for some mackerel for estuary fishing. They quickly hit a couple of good shoals and half filled a box.

Next stop was inside Loop Head, where they spent the rest of the day in the estuary and “thanks to Evan Down’s we landed our first Tope of the season.”
A nice tope for Evan
A good catch of mackerel for bait, and eating. A welcome sight this early in the season!

The Clare Dragoon was out the previous weekend, and skipper Luke Aston reported: “Big ground swell this morning but grand once we got away from the land. Fish and sunshine for the day after that.

Seems to be some small mackerel coming in on top of the water and bigger ones deeper. Plenty pollack and Coalfish and some whiting and Gurnard on the stones.”
A nice pollack comes aboard the Clare Dragoon.

Go fishing…
