Lisdoonvarna Fanore Sea Angling Club held their annual International Angling Week last week, with a number of competitions held at various venues in north Clare over the week. Conditions varied from warm sunshine to torrential rain, but everyone no doubt enjoyed themselves. Fishing was good, with everyone catching, and some very nice fish caught.

Angler of the Week, and not for the first time, was Kinvara man Mike Curtin. No stranger to the prizes here and elsewhere, Mike is a top competition angler and knows this part of the coastline very well. He even had a nice spurdog among his fish.

Junior Angler of the Week was Mike’s son, Matthew. No doubt a chip off the old block going on this result, and one to watch for the future. Well done Matthew!

The week culminated in the club’s 60th annual competition at Black Head. Results were as follows:

Heaviest Fish: Joe Byrne, Wexford
Most Fish: Joe Ryan, Wexford
Greatest weight: James Linnane, Shannon
Best Lady: Eithne Hartley, Galway
Best Juvenile: Matthew Curtin, Kinvara.

Well done to all, and hopefully next year Covid will be a distant memory and the overseas anglers will be back in force.
