1st salmon of the season caught on Lough Beltra

Rocky Moran from Castlebar caught the first salmon of the new season on Lough Beltra on Tuesday 22nd March. The 9.5 lbs. spring fish took a Green Peter fished on a sinking line. Fishing together with his boat partner Jim Wilson, Rocky lost another fish later in the day.

Given Lough Beltra’s reputation as a prime spring fishery together with the fine settled weather prospects for the coming days are looking good.

The season on Lough Beltra opens on March 20th and closes on September 30th. The fishery is fly only and sea trout fishing is Catch & Release.
