The Leinster Pike Angling Club continued their winter league last weekend as 22 anglers travelled to a lake venue for the day. With recent rain swelling all our lakes and rivers, it was always going to be a difficult prospect, and it was tough going for many, with smaller pike dominating the catches.

Mark Kiernan was the top angler on the day with a creditable 12 fish for 43lb 9oz, and with the largest fish on the day only tipping the scales at just over 6lb it was definitely a day when quantity trumped quality.

Full results as follows:

1st Mark Kiernan 12 fish 43’9
2nd Rodney Gaynor 6 fish 19’12
3rd Mark McKenna 8 fish 16’8
HF Paj Nolan 6’3
1st Pools Mark Kiernan & Sean O’Brien total bag 43’9
2nd Pools Mark McKenna & Sean Woods total bag 28’13

With only a couple of competitions left on the calendar, their winter league looks like it’s going down to the wire.
