Newport SAC hosted their final competition of the season on Sunday, September 17th. This was a teams event which meant that the total number of fish caught by each of the 4 team members were combined together to calculate the overall winners. This was a tightly fought contest and in the end, the top two teams were only separated by 4 fish / 20 points.
The weather played its part and the event took place in the beautiful, calm seas of Clew Bay. Some of the boats moved during the designated fishing times to try to gain a better advantage over the others. Lines were up at the designated time of 4.30pm and all boats returned to Newport Quay where team members met to discuss their respective catches.
The prize presentation took place in the Grainne Uaille (as they were winners of last year’s local shield) and they also sponsored some hot food for the hungry anglers during the presentation). All of the prizes were presented by Pat Moran Jnr (representing the main sponsor – J.Coffey construction).
