Cork Sea Angling Club‘s Kevin McGowan reports on their latest match fished at Long Strand…
Cork Sea Angling Club had their ninth competition of the year on Saturday at Long Strand, West Cork. Fishing was from 6pm to 11pm. The weather was to calm, very little movement which wasn’t great for Long Strand. Here you need a nice strong surf breaking on the shore for some decent fishing.
Long Strand is good for clubs with very small fish, but as our fish sizes are 25cm we knew this was going to be a hard night’s fishing.
First in with a fish was Alan O’Dowling with a garfish as soon as he caught that fish it was like a chain reaction everyone running for the garfish rigs. Second in was Martin Fitzgerald with a nice 52cm bass, then Noel Cashman with his garfish, there was lots of weavers caught on the night a few small Turbot.
If it wasn’t for Martin Mc Gowan and his home-made buttered jam scones it would have been a long night.
At the end Kevin McGowan won with two bass, garfish and a flounder, Second was Noel with a garfish. Third was Alan with a gar and Fourth was Martin for that early bass.
There are 4 more competitions left and it’s getting very exciting for second, third place
Looking forward to ballyquinn on the 16th of September.
