It’s the time of year when we see shoals of mullet, some of them very big fish, cruising around harbours, channels and estuaries, and now is the best time to target mullet. A hard-fighting fish, they are very wary and difficult to hook, but provide wonderful sport when you crack it and get them feeding.

Dawid Kop certainly did that recently, on a session on the east coast where he fished with bread fake under a float – a classic tactic for mullet. Among his catch was this fantastic specimen fish of 6lbs 1oz.

For anyone intending to target mullet, the Irish Mullet Fishing facebook page has links to some great instructional videos, and another one we really like is this video from Irish Angling Adventures, where Ian demonstrates the float fishing technique very well.
