In spite of the unsuitable weather, some Donegal Bay tuna boats got out over the last week and encountered some monsters.
The Fiona Tee reported an epic encunter on Sunday. After a difficult steam out to the fishing grounds, they had to wait a couple of hours before spotting a feeding frenzy. They had a couple of takes before hooking a nice fish that unfortunately spat the hook, but not long after another fish was on, which resulted in a nice 92-inch, 500lbs fish brought to the boat.

Within minutes of the rods being back in the water, they were in again, but this was no ordinary fish. Despite the skipper taking over from the angler, the fish stripped the reel twice more, and was eventually lost just a metre from the boat. Skipper Michael says he was never so gutted to lose a fish in his life, so like him, we will be left wondering just what size the giant was!

Adrian Molloy from Tuna.ie also reported two bluefin caught on Monday, and incredibly he had spaces available for more trips during the week!

Normally the best bluefin fishing doesn’t get into full swing until September, but it looks like a good start already for the 2023 bluefin season, so get booking if you want a chance to catch one of these amazing fish.
