Osgur Grieve reports from Loughs Conn & Cullin…

Lough Conn:

Peter Roche was fishing shallows on the western shore around Gallagher’s on Tuesday 18th and released 3 trout using Connemara Black and Fiery Brown dabblers.

Ian Wise of Cloonamoyne Fishery reports guiding 2 anglers on Saturday 22nd. They had 7 trout to the boat and released 5 of these, the best trout measuring 14 inches. Successful flies were Sooty Olive, Fiery Brown Dabbler and White Hackled Invicta.

Lough Cullin:

Peter Roche and Gary Binley fished Lough Culinn on Saturday 22nd. Peter released what can only be described as a “well fed keeper” along with 3 other smaller trout. His best trout of the day was lost unfortunately but was estimated at 1.5lbs. Gary also released 3 smaller trout using wets. Successful flies included Fiery Brown Dabbler, Golden Olive Dabbler, Golden Olive Bumble.

Anglers on both Loughs Conn and Cullin reported seeing more fly life during the week than previously seen this season with olives hatching in good numbers on some days, buzzers hatching and even the odd mayfly starting to appear. Lets hope air temperatures stay suitably warm which should encourage more trout to the surface.
