Vincent Appleby, assisted by the Inny Farmer, reports from Lough Currane and the river Inny for the last time this season…
10/10/2024. The rod benders take the headlines as you can see by the photos, for how many caught you will have to watch this space. Wind NE light and variable and followed by reasonable cloud cover at times. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 3.9mm, amount of sunshine 2hrs.5mins, maximum air temperature 14.9°c.
11/2024. My WhatsApple was all quiet on this bright sunny day, followed by a very variable light to calm SE wind, veered SSE, S, SW, WSW, SW, WSW. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.7mm, amount of sunshine 9hrs.1mins, maximum air temperature 11.8°c.
12/10/2024. Just one good C&R Sea Trout caught by the Currane angler as you can see by the photo, there was a nice wave on the lake so I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few nice Trout caught this day but that’s only my opinion.
So on that note we go to a one happy Currane angler who won the E.M.H Appleby Memorial cup for catching a fine 11lbs.9oz Spring Salmon, sponsored by Fogarty’s Centra, Waterville, and a great prize of a €100 voucher and all was presented by Mr. Patrick Fogarty of Fogarty’s Centra, Waterville. Again, I must give a big thank you to Fogarty’s Centra for Sponsoring the E.M.H. Appleby Cup and a big Congratulations to Currane angler Mike Dwyer for winning the E.M.H. Appleby Cup.
Now to Currane quote of the day goes to Mr. Patrick Fogarty of Fogarty’s Centra, let’s keep it going, all I can say is roll on 2025. Wind moderate to fresh WNE veered NNW, N, NNW, followed by the odd shower. Yesterday’s weather, amount of rainfall 0.1mm, amount of sunshine 5hrs.4mins, maximum air temperature 13.4°c.
As I have being saying this for well over 20 years, well it’s that time of year again and yes you have it, first of all I would like to say a big thank you to you the readers of the Blog and my Facebook page and especially Mr. Myles Kelly and all the team in the Inland Fishery Ireland for their great support as always, this 2024 season.
So, on that note I can’t wait for the 2025 Season, Happy Christmas to you all and stay safe and I’m looking forward to January 17th, 2025 and writing on The No Spin No Fly’s just Facts Zone.

Sea Trout – Catch and release only
Inland Fisheries Ireland wishes to remind anglers that the Conservation of Sea Trout (No.7 or Kerry District) Waterville Area Bye-Law No. 971 of 2019 remains in effect. This Bye-law prohibits the retention and possession of any sea trout (Salmo trutta L.) taken by any fishing engine or by rod and line in the Waterville area i.e. that part of the sea eastward of a line drawn from the most westerly point of Bolus Head to the most westerly point of Lamb’s Head and to all the waters discharging in to it.
The Bye-Law mainly affects seatrout fishing on :-
- the river Inny (Knockmoyle) and its tributaries
- the waters of the Waterville system, including the Waterville River, Lough Currane, the Cummeragh River and all their tributary rivers and lakes
- the waters of Ballinskelligs Bay
FLEKSI
A new online survey has been developed by IFI for the Currane catchment to gather anglers’ knowledge – the survey method called FLEKSI was developed by IFI to help give an insight into the status of the fishery. Currane Anglers are needed for Citizen Science survey to examine fish stocks
