August started off with nice conditions in Galway, with just one sluice gate open. Fishing was reasonably good too. Martin Kiely had a 4.5lbs grilse on the 1st to start the month. There were 4 fish landed on the 2nd, all nice grilse including a 6lbs fish for Martin Weinzerl. Eddie Corry, John McCarthy and Gernot Lipp also had a grilse each. 3 of the fish were taken on fly.
Bill Flavin landed a 4.8lbs fish on the 3rd, while on the 4th there were another 4 fish landed, all on fly. The best fish was a fine 7.5lbs salmon for visiting angler Machinal Antoinc, one of two fish for him. Micvhael Griffin had a grilse of 3lbs and Keith Faller had a nice 6.8lbs fish too.
Sheila Lynch landd a 4.5lbs grilse on fly on the 5th, but inclement weather after that saw iust one more fish, a4lbs grilse on spinner on the 9th. Water levels quickly increased to 3 gates,. then 6 and 8 by the end of the month, and with Loughs Mask and Corrib still quite high after a wet month, it is difficult to see any more fishing taking place in Galway before the end of the season.
