The members of South Shore SAC had to scramble to find a venue for last Sunday’s match as the planned venue, Kilgormon Beach was deemed unfishable on the day. So they sent scouts out to nearby venues to see the lie of the land and eventually settled on Ballinoulart, which looked promising, with a nice surf running.
They had fished the venue relatively recently, and lots of small bass had featured in catches, so they were hopeful the bass might still be around to provide some action. Shortly after the first casts went in, their hopes were realised, as a number of small bass were reeled in, particularly from the favoured lower pegs. Flounder, dabs and whiting were also biting, and it wasn’t long before Cian Corcoran, fishing in Zone A on the end peg, had put some distance between himself and the rest of the field. He managed to keep up the pace throughout the afternoon and finished with a tally of 23 fish which was enough for him to top the table on the day.
Over on Zone B, it was more of a struggle, and weed became an issue late on in the match, making the going tricky. But Eric Gasparro, after a 10-year layoff from match fishing, showed that he hadn’t lost the knack, and his 13 fish saw him comfortably take the win on the zone.
