Neville Snoddy was out for a day’s pleasure fishing on a small boat off the Antrim coast last Saturday. He was after a few pollack and fishing away with feathers tipped with mackerel when Neville felt a tug on the line that seemed a bit more than the usual pollack thumping. And as he felt the fish cruise away taking line, he knew he was into something a bit special. It turned out to be a tope, and a decent one at that, for after a 20-minute scrap, he managed to reel in a nice fish of circa 40lb, no mean feat when fishing with light pollack gear! ๐๐๐๐. The tope was quickly unhooked and, after a quick photo to mark his unusual catch, was released back to the water.
