At this time of year, when the regular trout season is closed, the put-and-take fisheries come into their own as a refuge for anglers still looking to cast a fly for trout. Peter Driver of Piscari Fly decided to take advantage of the unseasonable mild weather and bring his daughter Lily to his local put and take, Ardaire Springs, to see if she could conjure up a fish or two. And the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as Lily was soon picking off fish from around the margins with a couple of flies hung under a bung. Dad Peter said: “It was a very proud moment watching her cast her own flies into the lake, see her straighten her line on the surface and then the quick jump up with excitement when the bung moved to set the hook”
She had even spent the evening before knocking out a few killer patterns for herself, and it seems her fly-tying skills are up to scratch, too!
