Licenced BFT operator TunaMick has got his 2025 bluefin season underway with a bang this week. As they made their way out of Donegal Harbour, they were surrounded by birds, whales, dolphins and tuna only 3 nautical miles from the shore.
The lures were dropped and within 20 minutes they had a double hookup. Mick’s son Cian took one of the rods and, after a good struggle, brought his fish alongside to be tagged.
And they also managed to bring the second one to the boat as well, no mean feat… The fish were estimated at 400 and 500lb.
As is often the case, the other wildlife on show rivalled the tuna for excitement as they had the pleasure of watching four humpback whales, two fin whales, and plenty of dolphins and minke whales.
