The second Monasterevin & Daingean Match Anglers match of the year on the canal proved to be a very successful and enjoyable event, marked by strong catches of tench and bream throughout the stretch. It was especially encouraging to see new faces and junior anglers participating and landing fish, highlighting the importance of fostering the next generation of anglers. Their development, supported by the knowledge and guidance of experienced members, bodes well for the future of the club.

Fishing conditions were clearly favourable, with quality fish—many reaching up to 4lb—being caught across multiple pegs. Drawn on the end peg, Richie Keegan of M&D Match Anglers capitalised on his position, landing an impressive 10 tench along with 4lb of silvers. His total weight of 22lb 6oz secured him a well-deserved first place.

Tommy Burke, secretary of the Edenderry club, quickly adapted his approach after noticing early action from other anglers. Switching his focus to tench paid off, as he landed eight and finished second with 18lb 1oz. On the opposite end peg, Belfast angler Jeffrey Walker delivered a standout performance in an area not typically known as a hotspot. Matching Burke with eight tench and adding a skimmer, he secured third place with 17lb 6oz.

The rest of the field also produced solid weights, reflecting the overall quality of the match. Section winners included Ken Dingley (A), Joe Nolan (B), Stefan Dorneanu (C), and Sam Albicker (D).

Special thanks were extended to all who helped prepare the venue, with particular appreciation for Kuba, whose repeated efforts ensured the swims were in top condition. Overall, it was a well-run and rewarding match for all involved.
