‘Our world renowned coarse fishery is OPEN FOR BUSINESS in 2015′

Lanesborough, and it’s famous ESB hot water stretch on the Longford-Roscommon border has long been considered the jewel in the crown of Ireland’s coarse angling sector. Within 95 minutes of Dublin, the central location provides easy accessibility for anglers of all levels. There are now two wheelchair friendly areas, and parking is not a problem. Close by, a kids play area and duck pond means the whole family can enjoy a day at this idyllic venue.

Since the 1950’s tourists have experienced bumper catches and many specimen weights have been recorded on all species. The Lanesborough-Ballyleague area is renowned for giant tench and for a very long time, the national record was held here.

It is well documented about the demise of the once prolific bream shoals throughout the 32 counties, and sadly Lanesborough too has suffered, but with such a vast area that is Lough Ree, and the almost un-fished area up-stream of the Shannon to Tarmonbarry, there is little doubt that some shoals remain uncaught. September is the month when bream often make an appearance, most notably on the Roscommon bank.

2014 saw the discovery of the Asian Clam, and as a result, angling was suspended temporarily until bio-security measures were enforced. All visitors are requested to dip their landing nets and footwear in the disinfectant tanks on leaving the fishery but it is important to note that Lanesborough-Ballyleague is OPEN for all fishing in 2015

Away from the water the area has a variety of places to eat and drink . Other local facilities are only a short walk away. For further information, see www.loughree.ie or www.lanesboroughangling.ie
