Carrickmacross Coarse Angling and Youth Development Club kicked off their annual fishing summer camp today at the Brothers Lake in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan. This fantastic event is fully subscribed again this year and today 11 young anglers turned up to learn all about coarse angling from members of the club. The mornings session ran from 9.30am to 12.30pm. The 11 attendees were shown the basics about fishing the whip and then it was down to the water to put all this learning into practice. The great thing about today’s event is that every single one of the young anglers caught fish, all under the watchful eye of their coaches. Whip was the method of choice and by the sessions end, even the youngest of the participants had mastered this technique of fishing. By the end of the session all of the youngsters were all baiting up the hook, casting, hooking the fish, playing the fish, unhooking the fish and releasing all of the fish carefully back to the water.
The Carrickmacross Coarse Angling and Youth Development Club summer camp is running from the 8th of July until 19th July. This week is being dedicated to novice anglers and next week will see the return of those who participated in last years events. The clubs youth development programme has already produced some top class junior anglers who have given many of the senior anglers a good run for their money. This club is definitely one to watch for the future.
