Alice MurtaghIFI from the Corlesmore office reports:
There are still plenty of French anglers fishing for Pike. They report plenty of small to medium sized Pike but one angler reported catching one Pike one meter in length.
Alice MurtaghIFI from the Corlesmore office reports:
The Annalee and Bunnoe rivers are producing good few small Trout at the moment.
River Annalee
This long river rises in Lough Sillan at Shercock and is joined by the Dromore River below Cootehill. The Cavan Anglers club control the section of river upstream from Ballyhaise to Ballynallon and a permit is required. Good hatches of Olives and Sedges occur. There is some good fishing at Deredis near Butlersbridge and upstream of Cootehill in the stretch below Knappagh Bridge.
The Rivers Bunnoe and Laragh are two main tributaries that join the river below Cootehill and there are active clubs on both rivers. Trout to over 3 lbs. are reported annually. Local day permits can be purchased.

Jim Clohessy of Topfisher.eu.takes a look back on his hunt for the elusive Golden Grey Mullet. He tells us;
“I will always remember my first golden grey mullet, a flukey fish really, caught while spinning for bass early in 2002. It caused some consternation for us at the time as we struggled to identify the fish. The excellent “Irish Sport Fish – a Guide to their Identification” proved inconclusive as it reckoned that Golden Grey mullet were not recorded in Ireland. You couldn’t fault book as it was originally published before the arrival of a few new species into our waters. In those days gilthead bream were a rarity, trigger fish were elusive. In a changed landscape (should that be waterscape!) these new species give the dinghy angler looking for a change of scene something new to chase, something new to ponder during bad weather and the winter time.”

Jim Clohessy and some of Ireland’s finest angling journalists decided that they would like to establish an online presence where they could continue to publish articles that would be of interest to all anglers wherever they are based (following the demise of Irish Angler magazine), but of course with a distinctly Irish flavour. So that’s what you get at Topfisher.eu.

A world champion angler and an engineer who worked on heat shields for Nasa space shuttles say they have made the first fishing rod using graphene.
A form of carbon, graphene is many times stronger than steel.
It was discovered in 2004 by Sir Andre Geim and Sir Konstantin Novoselov – who were awarded the 2010 Nobel prize in physics for their work on the material.

Vincent Appleby reports on some good fishing at Lough Currane…
25/5/16 There were no reports of any rod benders, so we will head to the backdate department. Yesterday, on the late shift, local angler Mr. Martin Lanigan O’Keeffe, caught a 5 lbs. Grilse on the fly, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com. Now back today’s facts, Wind NE light with bright sunshine.
Markus with his Sea Trout
26/5/16 There was some great fishing in the fly and drifting and holding department, we start in the drifting department. UK angler Mr. Sean Smith, fishing out of www.watervillegolflinks.ie, caught a fine 9 lbs. salmon on the drift while fishing with his gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com. Staying in the drifting department, an angler on his own caught a fine Sea Trout in the 5 lbs. class. Now we head for the holding department and catch of the day and that goes to German Angler, Mr. Markus Kruse, and for good reason. He caught a fine 8 lbs. Salmon and finished his day off with a cracker of a 5 ½ lbs. Sea Trout, all while fishing with his Gillie. Now we head downstream and out to the Wild Atlantic Ocean and the annual Scarriff Inn workers fishing competition and going by the Mackerel caught, it’s a draw. And on behalf of all the Scarriff Inn workers they would like to say a big thanks to skelligtours@gmail.com. Wind West light to calm and sunshine all day with reasonable cloud cover at times.
27/5/16 Lough Currane was all quiet on the SW front in all departments and with little to no wind and bright sunshine, what would you expect, so the least said the soonest mended.
28/5/16 There were just a few Sea Trout and a salmon or two caught and the facts are as follows. Roel Haagmans caught a 3lb seatrout trolling while fishing with his Gilli,e Mr Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com. Mr. Olly Lynch had 1 sea trout on the troll and lost another good one. Now we head for the hired out boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com. A County Down party had 3 sea trout of 6 lbs ,5lbs and 3.1/2 all caught on the fly. There was a fine 5 lbs. Salmon, caught by Mr. Ben Bedore from Ohio, while fishing with his gillie and fishing out of www.oshealoughcurrane.com. Wind this morning calm, West afternoon and bright sunshine all day.
29/5/16 There was some good action on Lough Currane, so straight to the results. We start in the hired out boat department of www.lakelandshouse.com. Mr. Michael Debrune, caught a fine 6 lbs. Salmon on the troll. Now we head for the North side and the Bungalow. Northern Irish angler Mr. Eamon Logue from Derry, caught a fine 6 lbs Salmon/Grilse on the troll while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com. Also in good form was German Angler. In the past few days there were 3 Salmon caught by German angler, Dr. Reinhardt Biniek. Now to the Sea Trout department Mr. Kevin O’Sullivan of Waterville caught and released a nice 1 ½ lbs. Sea Trout on the drift. Wind North light to calm all day and bright sunshine all day.
30/5/16 The hot weather takes all the headlines, with bright sunshine and a light wind from the West, so you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that all anglers failed miserably in the catching of a Wild Atlantic Salmon or a Lough Currane wild specimen Sea Trout. Just for the record Co Kerry is officially in a heat wave.
Church Island
31/5/16 Blazing saddles was the order of the day, as the anglers looked up to the heavens and all they could see was a clear blue sky with a raging sun shining down on Lough Currane. They tried and failed in all departments, be it lure or fly and as you can see by the photo the only thing my Noble anglers caught was a suntan. Wind NW light to fresh with little to no cloud cover.
That is your ration from the last week on Lough Currane, from your Gillie and the Waterville Fishery, no spin no fly’s just facts. Vincent Appleby
