Moy Catchment Angling Report – W/E 21st July 2024
Water levels in the Moy remained low for most of the week with a reading of 0.19 m on Monday 15th at Ballylahan which rose suddenly to just over 1 m on Saturday evening after much awaited rain finally arrived in the locality. Some fisheries reported good catches for the week particularly at the weekend with the changes in water levels. Over the past week rainfall amounts were above average in Connacht with the Belmullet station recording 50.8 mm of rain. The weather is expected to be mixed over the next seven days with West Connacht forecast to receive 20-25mm of rainfall.

Moy Fishery
A combined total of 76 salmon caught on The Moy Fishery this week with 45 being taken and 31 being released back safely to the water.
Ballina Salmon Anglers.
A total of 51 salmon were reported caught this fortnight with 29 caught on the worm, 12 on the fly and 10 spinning. The majority were grilse from 2.5 lbs and 5 lbs.
Mount Falcon Estate
A total of 22 salmon reported caught with 14 being taken and 8 released with weights ranging from 4 lbs to 6 lbs and the best for the week weighing in at 8lbs.
Knockmore Salmon Anglers
Kenneth reported 21 salmon caught on the prawn and worm showing weights from 3lbs-6lbs.
Attymass Angling Club
Kevin reported 7 salmon caught showing weights from 4-5 lbs and all being taken on the prawn and worm.
Byrnes Fishery
Roy reported 37 salmon caught this week with weights ranging from 3 lbs up to 7 lbs. Most fish were taken on the prawn and the worm with best coming in at 8 lbs.
Armstrong Fishery
George reported 35 salmon caught for the week with weights up to 8 lbs all taken on the shrimp and worm with 1 salmon released back to the water.
Gannon’s Fishery
Pat reported 80 salmon caught mostly on the prawn with weights up to 8 lbs with 12 of them released back to the water.
The Foxford Fishery
Granville reported 51 salmon caught for the week using all methods with the best on the worm and 9 of them returned to the water. Best weights for the week were in the region of 8 lbs.
Reports were received of 6 salmon caught this week in the Foxford town area. The bubble and fly and the worm appeared to be most successful method with most fish ranging between 3 lbs and 5 lbs with the best weighing 6 lbs.
Foxford Salmon Anglers 180 salmon were reported caught and taken in Foxford Salmon Anglers waters for the week with all methods showing good returns.
Cloongee Fishery
A total of 3 salmon were reported caught this week with all of these reported as being released. Weights ranged from 4 lbs to 5.5 lbs, and all were caught on the fly.
East Mayo Anglers Association
A total of 35 salmon were reported caught for the week of which 10 were released. Sunday 21st being by far the best day accounting for 21 salmon as a result in the recent spike in water levels.
Moy Estuary
Judd Ruane reports of continuous good catch returns on the estuary with the highlight of the week being the sea trout caught by visiting UK angler Michael Whitherspoon.
